Where is email layout info in Mac OS?

I am unable to find the selection to email metadata in MDP ProX for Mac OS. It is not in Config > Actions > Advanced anymore. In the iPad there is a Mail Metadata option. In Mac OS, there is no such option in Config menu. The Share to Mail in the Apple File Menu only attaches the ,mididesigner file. I find it useful, especially for large layouts to identify controls for assigning Midi parameters. Please bring it back.

I'm trying to open MDX on my iPhone, but it fails with the message above, and on clicking 'OK' it shuts down without giving me a chance to fix the problem. At the moment I simply can't use MDX on my iPhone at all.

Having MDP 2 on an M1 Mac seems like a good idea for a Mac that has an external touchscreen monitor (which I don’t have). I have an M1 Mac Mini with OS 12.4. The little functionality I tested seems to be working alright.

After finding out how to set up the Midi interface between 2 virtual apps (Hauptwerk) on my M1 Mac Mini, I was able to load a layout I developed on my M1 iPad. I immediately noticed the labeling of many buttons (not all?) when tapped (with my mouse since I don’t have a touchscreen) were skewed upwards. And when tapped again went higher above the button. If I Quit and restarted, the labels were at their normal position, until tapped again, then went further askew.

The same issue occurred on new buttons added using the Mac.

I also found I couldn’t edit the label anywhere except at the end or by deleting the text and starting anew. It appears similar to an earlier problem in the iPad where the cursor didn’t show during editing. This seems to be an issue in buttons, labels, knobs, etc.

MIDI Message Type “No MIDI send/receive” sends MIDI out from MDP

Contrary to its title, setting MIDI to “No MIDI send/receive” will send a MIDI output (I haven’t tested receive). This is a repeat of a defect from Ibo-Kai on March 19.

I set up simple 6 buttons (not Supercontrols) using Message Type CC, four buttons with Chan 6 and two with Chan 4. I then changed the two Chan 4 to “No MIDI send/receive”. As I tapped the buttons, I monitored the MIDI out with MDP Log, MIDISpy iPad App, and MIDI Monitor on my computer.

The MDP log properly indicated the four Chan 6 outputs and did not register any for the two Chan 4. So does it not output internally?

MIDISpy indicated the four Chan 6 properly. The two Chan 4 indicated the following outputs:

CH4 PolyPressure 13 127

CH4 PolyPressure 15 127

MIDI Monitor indicated the four Chan 6 properly. The two Chan 4 indicated the following outputs:

So MDP does output MIDI messages when No MIDI send/receive is selected. What is the intent of the No MIDI selection?

I had started using the "no MIDI send/receive" MIDI type for certain controls, to avoid unwanted MIDI messages e.g. for radio buttons, when the layout is set to "Supercontrols send own values" or in the same layout, when a Supercontrol should just be supercontrolling. But in MIDI Monitor on my computer I see unintentional Poly Aftertouch messages coming together with every intended sysex message. So far my workaround is an according output rule, simply blocking PolyAftertouch, which works fine. Still it irritates me, am I doing something wrong?

By the way I realized that the PA comes on different channels. I had blocked A0, but then is came as A2.

Bug: After inserting new right page, left properties window pops up (and vice versa)

When inserting a new page the normal response should be to have the Properties/Action window for the new page pop up. The opposite happens. This may result in messing up an existing page thinking you are configuring the new page. I am using MDP v2.301.

Recently I decided to investigate a bit more in creating panels to get more controls onto my layout without making it look too messy at some point. My goal was to have panels appear above other controls and use a switch to only bring them up when I need them. But I first couldn’t get the panel to appear above other controls that are not part of the panel but below the controls that belong to it. Panel set to „Always in Back“ results in the bad looking behavior shown in the image. If this is turned off the panel covers the controls that are part of it.

Whilst trying out different things I figured out that I have to turn off „Always in Back“ BEFORE adding controls to it. Then I get what I want. BUT: as soon as I just like to change the size of the panel or even just change the position slightly , the panel again hides my controls and I again have to un-assign all controls before I can assign them again. Weird problem with NPRNs in StreamByter

I have a layout that controls a synth using a combination of simple CC#s and NPRNs. Outgoing everything works perfectly.

I'm parsing an incoming Sys-Ex patch dump from the synth (176 bytes, so not too onerous). Up to this point I have only been picking out the parameters that require a simple CC# conversion, and everything was working fine, but now I'm trying to include the parameters that require an NPRN.

In the log I'm seeing all of the simple CC# conversions arriving, but most of the NPRNs are not arriving at all. When I comment out certain of the NPRN conversions others begin to arrive, and when I un-comment them they stop arriving again. It's consistent, but I can't see a pattern to what is going on in order to fix it.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Blank/Black screen on start with MPD 2.200

With 2.200, we are having a few reports of black screen when first opening MDP2 on an iPad Air 2 or the original iPad pro.

Sometimes the black screen will go to the home screen without action, some times you may have to tap the screen, or go to the home screen then back to the app. Appears the black screen is temporary and does not recur until the iPad is restarted.

"Hide Label" can be applied and "Distortion 5" appears instead after restart/ reload (iOS12.5.1 on iPadAir)

I hide the labels for a bunch of sliders because they got a separate label above. The layout is saved, MDP restarted, layout loaded and labels are back for all sliders which have hidden label enabled. It's not the original label but "distortion 5" instead.

To hide that label, need to enter design mode, disable and re-eneable "hide label" for it to hide. It only lasts until the layout is either reloaded into MDP without restarting MDP or after restarting it.

Possible workaround: none, because clearing the name and disable "hide label" on these controls also clears labels for identical controls on other pages.

Crashing on Batch Sends on iOS 14.2

I upgraded to iOS 14.2 and now I can't keep MIDI Designer Next or MD Pro 2 open when using pickers, which are important to me. Hitting other buttons, going into different modes (design, play, config, etc.), using sliders, etc. are not a problem. I only get crashes when I try to use a picker. And the crash rate is high. Every now and then I can get one to go through but that's it, north of 90% of my attempts crash MD.

Most of my testing is in Next. Sometimes Pro 2 won't even load.

This all happens without being connected to anything.

Same layout on my other iPad with iOS 13.6.1 is still working.

This is not related to show/hide panels. This is the "Hide Label" toggle which is available for all controls that have a label with text. It's broken for panels.

MIDI CC Names Wrong for 74

I notice in the MIDI Controllers list that CC74 is denoted as filter resonance. It's my understanding that CC74 is officially desiginated as filter cut-off, or 'brightness'.

In the video I only show the problem for -8 to -9, but the slider-value will show -16 until I read -24 from the VoiceLive 3. Then the slider-value jumps from -16 to -32 etc.... (I update the values from Voicelive 3 by sending a sysex request to VoiceLive3 with Stream Byter Output Rules)

When I use the slider in MDP2, all transmitted sysex values will also be correct on VL3X. So ... READING negative sysex values from VL3X will be correct in the log, but NOT in the slider in MDP2. Somthing wrong with the sysex-calculation i MDP2?...

Midi Log not working in 2.123?

I know I have been away a while, so maybe I missed a change. But I cannot get the log function to work on any of my layouts. I have tried on two different iPads, iPhone. And MD is getting data from the keyboard, so two way communication is happening. But the log is completely blank. I think I am running the most recent version - 2.123

Is there a new method to enable the log?

This puts quite a crimp in my programming, since I rely on the log to capture settings from the RD, esp effects, and checking work when I am coding away from the keyboard.

Bluetooth MIDI Crash when Connect Pressed [fixed]

I haven't fired up MD for a while - the iPad has had several major updates since I last used it - and now it crashes when I try to open the Connect dialog in Config/Connections. This is on an iPad Air 2 running 13.1.3. I press the Connect button and MD immediately closes. The MD version is Pro 2 Version 2.121 Build 191007.

I've been able to use it by running midimttr first and connecting to my BLE device there, then running MD, where it seems to already have the Bluetooth Source and Destination listed, so I don't need to press Connect.

Is the crash a known problem with this iPad OS version?

Delay on Drumpads

Since iOS 11 there is a new problem in MD and in other apps as well, which are using a keyboard for playing notes. In MD I noticed this issue with drumpads. If the buttons are right at the bottom of the screen there is a delay of almost 1 second before the controls activate. To be exact: the problem does not apply to the whole "key", only, if your finger is close to the edge of the screen.

I found a discussion in the AUM forum, where exactly the same problem is described, and I think also solved:

I am not sure, if this was the final solution — I don't know anything about programming, but maybe it means something to you. Attached is a screenshot of the layout where I noticed this problem. It is the same on iPad, if the drumpads are on the very bottom of the screen. The controls are Buttons, Subtype Drumpad; Drumpad Options: Real MIDI Off Value / Use Multitouch (but there is no difference, if I change options).

Would be great, if you could fix this.

Stream Byter Plugin – Hide Keyboard on iPhone

Fantastic, that MD has the Stream Byter Plugin on board now! This will make some things much easier.

But there is a problem on the iPhone. After writing text for input or output rules it is not possible to install the rules, because the virtual keyboard of the iPhone covers the bottom line of the window with the buttons for Undo, Help and Install. There should be a button like "Hide Keyboard" as it is for Named Ticks / Edit Text, for instance.

iOS 11 Scaling Issue

Hi,

I have not seen serious problems with iOS 11, MD works as smooth as before. Only one thing is not ideal.

When launching MD, it opens in reduced size (zoomed out), with the zoom tool and the hand symbol in the lower right corner visible, like it is in slide-over mode. Sometimes it opens normally, but I could not find out yet, what it depends on. Could this be fixed?

Create new project OBP+MBT one page only (B1P1+B5P1).

Design Mode:

    Set background color (brushed metal + 3), not sure if this is relevant.
    Delete MDP logos left and right.
    Create full page (B1P1+B5P1) multiline text label.

Save project

Load project: MDP logo reappears on right hand (B5P1) page.

Even if you change the logo to be less intrusive it will always reappear full/default size.

Hello,
for heavens sake, what did you do???
Today I updated MD to version 2.5.0 and now all of my Programm Change buttons (and there are a lot of them) don't work properly any more. After loading the App all of the Prog Change Buttons do not send any message by the first touch, I have to touch the button a second time.
After doing so the button then turns back to its "normal" funktion, meaning that from then on a PC message is sent by a single touch.
This I did with all of my PC buttons and everything behaved as expected. However closing the MD and starting the app again, I got the faulty behaviour again.
This makes MD totally unusable!!! Do something!

Sysex Keyboard Not Showing in iOS 8.x

I am running IOS8.1 on an ipad 2 and when i try and edit the sysex part of control, the keyboard doesn't pop up. Instead I get a dark grey space where the keyboard should be.

Problem with knob rx in 1.6.2?

I have a layout with many knobs, some visible, and some invisible, and used as supercontrols for sets of 'radio' buttons. I use them to set values in my custom device, and to receive values from it when I change patches. These have been working fine until recently, when some of them (not all) have stopped responding to MIDI messages.

I have only noticed this problem since updating to 1.6.2, and I don't think it's a problem with my layout because I also see it with a new one with only one knob.

My test layout has a single knob, with the following settings:

Subtype: normal
Display min->max: 0-127
#ticks: 128
MIDI ch-CC: 1-3
Msg type: Control Change
MIDI min-max: 0-127
Default value: 64

This is a default knob with only the MIDI channel and CC changed to match the message my device is sending.

When I send B0 03 03 (CC, ch 1, CC 3, value 3) to MD from my device, the knob responds as expected, and is set to 3.

When I change it to limit the range of MIDI values and #ticks etc. it stops working. These are the new settings:

Subtype: normal
Display min->max: 1-8
#ticks: 8
MIDI ch-CC: 1-3
Msg type: Control Change
MIDI min-max: 1-8
Default value: 1

Now when I send B0 03 03 (which I confirm in the log, BTW), the knob always goes to 1, not 3.

Going back to my original large layout and testing several of these kinds of controls, I find that some work and some don't.

I'm running 1.6.2 on an original iPad, which sometimes struggles for memory when running MD.

Have I misunderstood something basic or is this a new problem?

Problem with Bidirectionality and Named Ticks/Button Groups

HI there. New user of MD.

Been spending much with MD. Like it very much. Soon will be posting my Layouts.

Would like to point a bug that I found. Sliders or knobs when they have limited midi range for eg 0 to 7 they are fully birectional. When I try to use named ticks then the bidirectionality breaks. WHen the control uses the full midi range then again no problem.

I also have problems in bidirectionality when I use radio buttons to control a knob and I have decided to make my Layouts using the option that the Supercontrol sends its value. I use dummy sysex for the supers and no problem. I will go through this again in more detail.

For now I would like some comments from the admin for this bug. Has this been already spoted, any chance we have a bug fix in the upcoming update?

Bank Up and Bank Down Buttons Not Working Correctly with One Big Page

I'd like to know the best way to create bank up and down buttons (I'm assuming there is no way to switch between banks in the same way as you can global presets ?) when using one big page ?

I understand that this only functions with a maximum of 4 banks on the left side. I have already designed a mixer on page 1 and wish to copy my bank up and down buttons throughout the layout so I always have access to them but I just can't access the correct bank/page combos. Should I start again with my layout ?

Possible bug in knobs with named ticks?

I have created a knob with named ticks. This knob is supposed to select a character. However, somehow the last character can never be selected and sometimes even the last few characters can't be selected. I have walked through my list of named ticks a few times, but can't find anything suspicious. I could send you a layout with the knob in it.

I was trying to build transport controls (maybe that's common enough to be a default object?) and first I wrote "Play", "Stop", etc, but then found out you could use the Emoji keyboard, found a couple relevant icons, put them in the button, tried to size them up to fill the button, and --- the emoji icon will size up one level, but after that it does not get bigger, it MOVES instead...

Controls are not being deleted properly in 1.4.4. This will be remedied soon.

I've deleted controls, but MIDI Designer doesn't allow me to add more without upgrading. I'm not done trying it out!

Latest update broke my presets [FIXED]

So I have a gig tomorrow, and I pulled out the old iPad and noticed that the MIDI Designer app needed to be updated, so I updated it. Now all of my presets no longer work. They were all based on the above solution, using the pedal area to store 128 voice select buttons. The only thing I can think is that the timing is no longer the same.

A preset button kicks off about 4 other functions that must occure in a linear order, and each must complete before the next one starts. My gut is telling me someting was optimized, and the next command is starting before the keyboard completes the previous command. It would be awesome if there was a way to add a wait between functions in a super control. As it sits, its no longer useful for me and I'll have to control the keyboard the old fashioned way tomorrow...

Presets, Send All and Send Default Values and Button Groups

Sending presets and all the other batch sends are not working in MIDI Designer 1.4.2 with button groups. The selected button needs to send last.

Resolved, the upgrade changed my sub controls to function as toggle switch's even when the button is programmed to "momentary" in properties section. Using the below answer, going to "relationships" and selecting "Force not stepper" on the topside button resolved my problem.

Very much look forward to the bug fix. Also looking forward to the new function (I forget the name you gave me) that will allow for multiple mesages to be sent from one control button!!
