Look in your HX-Stomp manual. It is remote controlled two ways, some functions can learn a MIDI Cc, some are pre-assigned. Using that info, make an appropriate momentary button with either the pre-assigned Cc, or a Cc to learn on the HX.

One solution -

Make the buttons that send the individual commands. For this, you prolly want the SEND ON ONLY option. Test the individual buttons send desired commands.

Make a knob control, make SUPERCONTROL, assign the buttons above as subcontrols in the desired order. If they get out of order, you can edit to move into desired order.

Make the button to receive your footswitch command, type MOMENTARY. Make it a SUPERCONTROL of the knob, options as supercontrol, either stepper (no wrap around) if you want it to stop at the end, or (wrap around) if you want to loop back the first when it hits the last.

If you move the footswitch button to the pedalboard, then you can have different sequences on separate pages.

First try here, hope it works right for everyone. Unfortunately, a lot of the parameters in the MiniKorg don't seem to respond to Mididesigner. I understand Sysex and Hex better than most yet I just can't seem to get them to work. Put the keyboard on this for testing purposes and to fill blank space.

Any tips/tricks would be helpful.

Some stream of consciousness thoughts on getting started.

Unlike the roland synths I am familiar with, this does not have a "scratchpad" that you can edit - looks like you are directly editing the kits.

Recommendation 1 - focus on making the editor work only on kit 1. Once it is working there - use streambyter to target the edited kit.

Kit 1 is at memory location 04 00 00 00.

Start by trying to edit the primary instrument assigned to pad 1.

This will be memory location 04 00 40 00, and is a four byte value. See how this is built up from the memory map entries for Kit 1 and Kit Unit Main 1. Learning how to use the sysex memory map is the key to building the editor.

Many times Roland uses only four bits of the seven bits available in midi, and looks like that is true of this field. So you will need a spreadsheet that does "roland" midi counting.

You will need all the instrument names in a spreadsheet.

I have attached a sample spreadsheet that does the four bit calculation, and has the first set of drums loaded.

So we need to make a picker control, type sysex.

Enter the following sysex command: 41 10 00 00 00 79 12 04 00 40 00 V (mdp2 automatically provides the leading F0 and trailing F7), select four byte V, roland four bit checksum. (This is the Roland DT1)

For the control, select named ticks, do not convert current ticks. Then edit the named ticks text, clear out everything, then paste in the "load this column" (minus the header) into the named ticks field. (Note - while we enter the sysex command in HEX, the named ticks midi values load in DECIMAL. Just something to get used to.)

Save, and test. Hopefully, we have a control that selects the the primary instrument for kit 1, pad 1.

Hopefully that will get you started.

The sample spreadsheet is numbers. If you are on a PC, I will have to figure out how to reconfigure the calculations so they translate properly to Excel - which they are not currently doing. But that may be a few days.

I got myself a iConnectivity MiO. One cable with DIN MIDI in/out. Although I have to use a 'camera' adapter (thanks, Apple...) it works fine, and means no additional hardware. So I have a one cable(+adapter) solution.

I guess if I buy a second MiO and a couple of back-to-back DIN sockets I would have a cabled solution from Lightning to USB, albeit with a few joins in the line.

Looks great! I personally love Meris layout for iPhone, its best for iPhone, I first saw it on my friend iPhone, then I bought an iPhone from Reecoupons, and now I am using this layout easily. Meris always does some properly designed stuff. its a nice extension to the control side.

Being able to have a graphical user interface on an iPad would greatly speed up programming these powerful midi controllers. By design, they must be programmed/changed/set with footswitches and laboriously tapping different pads. No buttons, sliders or knobs.

Ok I finished this today. Seems to be working fine, remember it will be much more enjoyable to use if you readup/remember how your e-mu worked. There is only so much you can do with it via Sysex, so there are some thing's you will still have to use the front panel for.

Since no one has responded, the answer seems to be that no one has created a full-blown controller for that MIDI target. However, you could create such a controller yourself... the idea is to start small, control a few critical parameters, and then move forward from there. If you look at the entire project in total, it’s huge, but if you start small and build iteratively, it’s fun (and even addictive) work.

1. I’ve done this for JD-xi. You will miss two bytes at the end of the sysex when you look at MIDI string. This is correct, The F7 and roland check sum is NOT shown in the midi box . If I remember correctly.

2. Also you need to use named ticks b/c Roland goes to second byte after it reaches 0F. If you search the forum you’d find some examples of this See .your dump (last 3 lines)

3. Replacing values in the midi box:. For now there is no way to SELECT multiple controls and change the SYXES for all of them. I wish Dan could add this to 2.5. Otherwise when you lock the edit box (click the red light on the top right site of edit window in should change to green) That is the window with all the options, midi, relationship... ) Then when you open the MIDI message and fix a value of one control and click click another control the midi box will NOT CLOSE and show the appropriate message so you don’t need to do many click to change the values.

I know it´s an old thread, but I also tried recently and came across a major problem: looks like the CZs don´t speak parameter changes! They only understand voice bulk dumps. I checked the CZ documentation and also what Sound Diver is doing: in fact SD always sends a whole voice dump, whenever you change any parameter, which also makes the SD editor quite slow and sometimes a bit unreliable. However in MD we can use only parameter changes, so I am afraid there is no chance for a real sound editor.

I have a fully Hawk/atomahawk modified Poly800 (same as ex800) and keep meaning to get around to make a design for it. The expanded 800 has quite a lot of new features available by nrpn.

No, it doesn't work with the DX27. The DX7 layout only works with the DX7 and the TX7. The DX27 has different parameters and its parameters are not mapped in the same way as the DX7 and the TX7.

I don't know how the pedal works, but according to the manual Program Changes are used to bypass and activate settings on the Whammy so it's possible to control stuff.

Approach would be to make buttons that send program change messages and put them in a button group per setting. So for octave up down you will get a button group. For 5th down and 4th up you will get a button group. Etc.

For example octave up and octave down on the Whammy.

- Create a button that sends program change message 84 (Midi off - on is 0 - 84). Set Send On Only.

- Create a button that sends program change message 63 (Midi off - on is 0 -63). Set Send On Only.

- Create a super control knob K.

- Make the buttons sub controls of Knob K.

- in Options as super control, Button 2nd action needs to be No Acction.

That should work.

hello, my name is Patrick and i am an audio and projection designer working at University of Florida and i am interested in creating template for my synths. I have several that i would like to try to create for but i am interested in finding out if people have created templates for:

If I understand you correctly this could be your solution. If not show the gear you want it for to see what you mean.

1. Create your buttons that need to be traversed. Each button needs to trigger a scene.

2. Create a knob and make it a super control. Midi min max should be the 0... ( nr of buttons - 1) you created. Min max display should be the same. Nr of ticks is the number of buttons you created. Hide the knob in performance mode. And No action on Button Group second press(in options as super window)

3. Create 2 momentary buttons Next and Previous. Make them supercontrols of the knob you created. Invert the Previous button.

I created a very simple layout for my M5. It has presets, tap tempo, and Tuner functions. If you want to add more presets simply go into design mode then "make similar" and then make the PC number up one.

And thank you for your wonderful work. The template is working fine for me so far, even though i'm a newbie with Midi Designer.

My question is related to an already asked one but i'd like to understand why it's not possible to replicate a program's parameter loaded from the MiniAk into Midi Designer. This can be a huge improvement. I understand that this is possible from a "Midi" perspective as some software based editors like Hypersynth MiniAk editor can do it and works via Midi. Apparently, there is the possibility to "Request" the patch parameters from the MiniAk into the Hypersynth editor (http://www.hypersynth.com/miniak-editor.html).

Here is the section regarding the "request patch" feature in their user manual :

Request patch loads a patch from specific Miniak Memory location into the editor. Program name and Category are stored in the patch. But a patch cannot be requested by its name, you must address it by program number and bank number (fig.1-1). When you change your synth presets, the synth automatically transmits the program and bank number out of its MIDI port. Editor receives this information and sets the bank/program number, Only thing you must do is to click on the request patch button. You can find request patch button in the tool bar under MIDI IN device selector (fig.1-1).

Request patch is done by using system exclusive messages “Sysex”. Sysex messages are usually used to transfer large amount of data between MIDI compatible audio gears. Patch name, category and all sound related parameters can be sent out from your synth in sysex format and editor will convert them to a *.syx file and save them in your HDD. The size of a standard Miniak sysex file that contains one program is 434 bytes. Larger files may contain multiple programs, bank or operating system firmware. Alesis ion and Micron programs are compatible with Miniak.

Is this a limitation that is coming from MidiDesigner or from the Template itself ? Does anyone knows if we can implement this in the Template ?

I think this will give us a consistent upgrade feature :)

This is now an inexpensive, unique & ethereal Yamaha Vector synthesizer with deep FM parameters most of which are hidden but visable with PC editors,. outboard effects & Ambient Bliss,.. Now a template made for this would be great,. so many still use this synth & if you do music like this,.. You'll want one & a template ;-)
