I'd be glad to help you if you want to attempt it, but I must say: MIDI Designer does NOT support Mackie Protocol at this point. We do channel changers, which might be interesting for a repetitive thing like a mixer, but without Mackie you might be let down. Do you own MDP yet?
I got a basic setup working on my iphone to control faders and channel mutes. But I can only get it working on the first 24 channels. Set up banks in Midi Designer of groups of 8 channels reflecting the M7CL Channel groups. I can not seem to get it work on channels 25 on though.  Need help there.  I would like to be able to change the mix on the aux bus from my phone so I can mix a monitor.
I don't have one of these units, so we'll have to figure this out together. You're saying that you cannot get a knob on MD to spin a parameter on channel 25+? What midi message are you expecting to work? Why do you expect it to work (meaning, guessing, based on the manual, what)?

How basic?

You have the M7CL stagemix from Yamaha already I guess? And now you would like to get in touch with the Compressors and racks?

I've tried that on LS9 and 01V, and as soon as the channelchanger feature is enabled to send sysex on more than 16 channels(I only got to the first 16 channels so far) that would be possible i guess, not easy, but possible. Since the reverb and compressor controllers are mostly only adressable as sysex I recomend that you "read" the conversation from Studiomanager to youre mixer. but be shure to disconnect the reply, or you only get a lot of realtimemessages.

I don't see why you would have to have a Mackie protocol for programming the M7CL mixer. Is there something I missed?

Just to clarify: Channel Changers currently allow for only 16 channels, even with sysex. However, in the next release of the app (1.4.6, almost feature-complete and in Beta) this will be rectified.
