Hi,

I've got a mopho and ms2000r connected to my ipad via an alesis idock.

Midi designer seems to be the ideal way of controlling my hardware (especially the mopho) as it has a limited amount of knobs.

So as a starting point I'm going to look at creating a layout for the mopho but where do I begin? Help!
I'll respond to this in about 10 hours or less, but for now the answer is: try to get one knob working. I'll help you get to that point later. Also it might be better to switch to email via the contact form. Thx!
Seems this never got moved forward. Any luck with the Mopho, spanna808?
I just created a DSI Mopho layout for myself. It's my first project with Midi Designer and I really like it. Where do I get to upload it for the forum?
Hi Caltrop and sorry for the delay. You can upload your layout here by creating an answer and then using the upload feature as described here. http://mididesigner.com/qa/108/how-can-i-upload-a-normal-file-in-an-answer-on-this-q%26a-site
hey so I got one of these last week (the SE version) and I love it. the knobs are pretty good for editing, but I love midi designer's take on things (especially x/y grids) so I'm going to make a layout soon.

The only concern I have with it is the implementation of NRPN. I had some trouble trying to get Local Midi on/off going, because I don't know how the values in the Mopho manual would translate to what needs to go into midi designer.

if anyone could point me in the right direction, it'd be really appreciated. I'd love to make a full-featured layout for the mopho, but I don't want to start working on it until I know I can implement the parameters controlled by NRPN.

for reference, the NRPN values can be found here under "NRPN Messages":

One thing to try, before anything, is to see if the Mopho can tell YOU, via MIDI Learn on MIDI Designer, what the NRPNs look like. If it can send (looks like it can) this might work.
ok awesome i'll try that. i know that local on/off doesn't send it, but it's an exception to it. i tried looking at it via another midi application so i know the nrpn transfers properly. will try a parameter close to this one and try to use that info for the rest...thanks for the quick response!
Great, yeah, this is an empirical exercise, so it is amenable to guessing ;) But yeah, we can get into it and go through the manual as necessary.
Well I tried it and I don't think midi learn is going to work for the NRPN parameters in this case. MD was able to "learn" when I sent some of those parameters to it, but it seemed like it was learning them all as "99" for the msb or lsb value. "99" was the value for multiple things.

I think though if it's at all possible to work through one of the controls, then I could figure it out for the rest of them :)
Have you looked at the log in MIDI Designer? That might help you understand the messages. After this round, I'll crack open the manual and decipher it, if necessary. Perhaps the log will reveal something obvious.

Thanks!
just wanted to update:

didn't know about the log...super helpful! still was a bit odd for me to wrap my head around it...but i now understand it! have key nrpn-only parameters working on a "test" layout at the moment, especially ones that were harder to reverse-engineer because they DO NOT transmit...which made things a little more difficult haha.

i hope to have a very full-featured layout done in a week or two, now that i know all of the parameters will be accessible.

thanks again for the help
Sure thing. MIDI Designer is 100% set up for blundering around and finding solutions. In software we call that test-driven development ;)

Good luck and thanks!
it's taken a bit longer than i thought it would, but I expect to put the finishing touches on the layout tomorrow night!

i've been playing with it as i go along but already i know it's going to be so much easier to get the most out of this synth. those with the desktop version should benefit greatly.

thanks again for the help so i could get started!
Wow! This was a request that I put up here after having met Dave Smith at NAMM 2013. Simple amazing work,  deadbeatsynesthete! Thank you!

Deadbeatsynesthete's layout is really complete, but seems to have some bugs. If anybody is interested, I'm working on a layout too. I'm not done yet, but so far the main screen looks like this.

Thanks, glad to have multiple layouts for the same MIDI target! Looking forward to having this.
Any news on this layout?
