MIDI Target Manufacturer(s): Roland
This is a useless layout, just flashes the RD-2000 internal zone lights and faders in a pre-set pattern. When connected to the RD, It deliberately sets up an infinite loop to keep running, so you have to break the inbound or outbound midi connection to stop. Stand-alone, it will just go up to 31 steps, then must be restarted. The LEDs are duplicated on the bottom of the layout. You can scrub up with preview to see the preset pattern. The patterns are stored as named ticks in the knobs.
The infinite motion is created by alternately storing 0 or 127 in an unused location in the RD, when the piston reaches end of travel, recall that value to toggle the start button state, and reverse the piston. Storing is done by the set low / set high buttons, recall by the low / high buttons.
And as a former rail fan, cannot help but see parallels in the back and forth piston movement turning a circular driver.
At increasing speeds, the RD buffer gets overrun by the Sysex volume. 32 steps in 7 seconds seems to be slow enough the overrun doesn't happen. Lockdown has not gone on enough for me to fine-tune, but you never know...
And the obvious next step is using the level LEDs as a wave.....
