Hello fine MD users. I’m sharing with you today a template to control the esoteric and eclectic 856 for Zellersasn from Montréal Assembly (makers of the amazing Count to 5 pedal.) It’s a pitchshifting/slicer/tempo shifting/multilayered/looping sound manipulation device. It takes a loop, slices it up and pitch shifts each slice separately then sequences through the slices, and it has 3 layers of this chaos to work with. It’s very deep and gets crazy super quick. It’s also very popular, they come out in small batches that sellout within hours.  But a certain percentage of those do end up on the market (albeit at inflated prices,) when the buyer realizes they don’t have any idea what it does or why they would even need to do such a thing. The pedal layout at first purposely did not lend itself to getting a grip on what this thing actually does. They eventually redesigned it and made it much more user friendly. Anyhow I love the thing. 

It’s not really a device where in the middle of recording, you imagine a sound and say oh, let’s grab the 856 for that.  I use it more for starting a jam or as a germ that’s will turn into a full track. Happy accidents that with some patience reward new sounds and workflows. At its simplest it’s a cool looper than can slow down/speed up/reverse/glitch/mangle whatever you throw at it.

It’s 100% midi controllable so I’ve made a little template that makes it a little easier to get your head around it, also access to a couple things only available ove midi. It has access to each of the 3 layers on separate pages on the left side, colored so hopefully you don’t mess with the wrong layer, with the global controls on the right. There’s a couple things not available on Layer 1 from the front panel but are accessible over midi, repeats of a slice I think is one of them.

Wow great layout!  This is such an interesting and unique pedal and I had no idea it had MIDI control!! Seems like the Canadian companies are really pushing effects pedals into uncharted territory.  Thanks for the share!
