Mac OSX, Keep MIDI Network Panel Open

I find that if I don't keep the "MIDI Network Setup" box open, the connection eventually drops with MIDI Designer. Is this normal?

Yes. It's been this way since 10.5.x or perhaps before. You have to keep that panel open.
