Controlling MD controls via midi pedalboard

Question

Hi,

I have a few MD layouts done.

I am considering a different setup, using an old midi pedalboard with limited midi implementation ( pc just).

I was asking to myself: is it possible to control a MD midi command from an incoming midi pc ?

I mean, may I tell MD to send out a specific midi command, different and more complex than the one it is receiving ?

In general the answer is yes, but specifically receiving Program Changes has some limits, since the PCs (program changes) are merely values and not discrete MIDI messages. So you can map PCs to one knob in MD and then have that one knob be a supercontrol for buttons, however: in general it's easier to use CCs on your external gear that controls MD. Does that make sense?

you are right, my question had to be more detailed.
Given a page that contains some NOTE ON/OFF's and CC's sent via MD BUTTONS ( not faders or sliders), may I make these BUTTONS to be recalled via incoming PC's values ?
And, whether it is possible, may I do it on with easy tweakings on the existing page or should I start from scratch ?

You can do it using the existing page but save and back everything up. What are the external controls? If it's one PC knob, then it's reasonable. In any case, the supercontrol on the pedalboard should likely be a supercontrol of a knob that creates Presets for Groups (Google that). Helps?

Presets is a good option but it doesn't work for what I want to do.
In practice: I have an existing combination of controls on MD.
For example looping is set with cc and midi notes as the looping vst it is controlling is reacting to such commands.
Each command I have on MD is replicated on my Soft Step, so that I can do all the operations via Soft Step or Ipad: hands or feet.
Now I want to go back to an additional option based on a hardware setup.
I won't be controlling vsts and audio software but hardware processors and loopers.
Ipad is my main control surface, I have a good hand feeling of where my controls are: buttons, knobs, volumes, faders...
My hardware can midi learn such controls so that I can preserve my control's surface's "architecture" and save a lot of work.
My hardware setup will not use the Soft Step, so I will go back using a simpler midi pedalboard that can send PC's just.
Can incoming PC 5 press button 1 on MD ?
If I can then I will be able to preserve all my midi setups, if I can't I will need to make a specific hardware setup.
