Is it possible to create an "alternate mode" like a drumkat or Yamaha e-drum kit?

Hi there. I was hoping to make an alternate mode using a drum pad in MD. This mode allows you to hit a drum pad (or send a midi note to MD from an external device) and each time you hit the pad, a new note is played. So, each hit plays a new defined note such as c, e, g, b flat, d, f. After the sequence of notes has played, it starts over again. Each hit is just one note. Ideally, you could define an unlimited number of notes to play, but 8 or 16 would be a start. Also, a random mode would be excellent using defined notes that are randomly stepped through, or a chord is chosen and the notes are played one at a time from that chord. Is this currently possible or maybe this is a feature request? I was hoping to build an instrument and midi interface like this and share with the planet :-)

Hi and thanks for your question. On the one hand, a momentary button can act as a stepper for a knob. The knob could have named ticks, but those are for values (Data2) and not for Which Note (Data 1)... you could get a bunch of different notes to send depending on the position of the knob (by using a button group -- buttons for which the knob is a supercontrol). So there's a lot of experimentation to do and you could see how far you can get.

On the other hand, it's an interesting suggestion, and goes quite well with the now-ancient suggestion to include an easier way to do sequential MIDI messages in MIDI Designer for one control. This is probably one of the "pain points" that will be fixed in MD 2.0.
