Summary: The Korg Monotribe -- like just about everything made by Korg -- is an amazing little device. This layout -- the MidiTribe -- is a fun and functional way to control the Korg with a few really cool extras, including austingreen's proprietary "Hive Note Layout." Fascinating, well-designed and useful... not just as a controller for the Monotribe, but as a starting point for other controllers.

Korg Monotribe, we all know him, this is the one that should been called MS20mini.  Great little voice with an amazing filter in a battery powered, portable little box with a kinda crappy little drum machine to boot! The sequencer is actually pretty fricking cool and fun to drive other synths once you've added midi and cv, both a must for any serious Monotribe owner, hehe....

So it's all here, not a lot to it but still fun and functional.  It was one of my first layouts and does what it says, nothing more. You can trigger the drums from the pads, or play the synth via XY. I created the hive note layout to replace the ribbon controller for a more precise jam. There's also a pitch controller that increase's LFO rate as pitch increases.

This is my first layout to feature my Hive note layout. One drawback on the Monotribe is an audible clicking noise when sent a note on/off, so I devised two version of the hive; one that nevers sends note off, to prevent unintentional clicking and you must use the note off button to stop the oscillator. The other version, G-Hive, you can use a second press for note off.  A yet 3rd version is a pentatonic scale based hive shape for easier in-tune jams, I'm a big fan of this one!  I think these hives could be fun for lots of layouts so please make use of them, feel free to incorporate them into your own layouts. There's another bank in there where i began to explore other alternate note layouts but ultimately burned out, please take up the work if you're interested and let me know how it goes.

Thanks to Korg who keeps killing it with the MS20 and ARP reissues, all these cool little devices with clearly labled PCBs for Benders/DIY'ers, and also they keep adding functionality to old devices (like adding CV control to the Monotribe) they could have long abandoned. Now if they could give me a couple fixes to my beloved MicroSampler ...we can always dream..
