Questions about JX-8P Controller with MIDIlink

Question

Hello Rainer. It was with some excitement that I bought this new app including your controller for old Roland synths. I have connected my Roland JX8P to my iPad 2, using a Midilink-mini USB-midi cable, but there is no reaction from my Jx8p. The Midi  ports are working fine for other things. What am I doing wrong?

However: can you verify that MIDI Designer Pro is sending via the midilink? How is it plugged in to the iPad?

Thanks for your reply. My problem is solved now as I replaced the midilink with an iRig midi. And now it works fine. In my first attempt I was using the Camera Connection kit on the iPad, something I thought would work.
(in fact the iRig midi solved other things for me as I can now play my iPad Garage Band directly from my old keyboards)

Glad to hear it works now! The CCK should work if the MIDI interface you use it with is really "class compliant", meaning it does not need its' own specific driver should you connect it to a Mac or a PC. In MIDI Designer you can check the ports it has recognized from the Config in tab Connections under "Hardware and Virtual Destinations". If it's not there, the iPad apparently doesn't see the interface and thus it can't be can't be used by MD.
By the way: if you connect your 8P bi-directionally to the iPad - so MIDI IN *and* MIDI OUT, the 8P should send out the Sysex data of a patch the moment you select a patch. MIDI Designer should update all controls to match the current patch. Neat! I haven't done this myself yet, but that should be the case.
