Is the same thing possible to control 8?

Hi all,

This was a very interesting and useful article.  I'm trying do essentially the same thing, but to control 8 knobs instead of 4 (it will be used to send MIDI CC messages to a mixing desk to act as a live surround panner).  

 Is there any way to do this?

How would 8 knobs work? The idea behind 4 is that we crossfade between two on each axis, and we've only got two axises (axi?) on the XY. We could have more with more touches, but MD doesn't support that yet. Thanks!
