Brand new user with questions

Hello everyone,

So I discover this kind of applications recently and I'm so excited about all I can do with it.

My questions:

do people sell layouts? is that legal? is it ok? not nice?

I think I'm making something special, for some guitarist and I know that when many of them see it they would want to have it.

Also I wish there was an option of not deviding the "app environment".. not sure what to call it, my ESL doesn't help sometimes.

I know that there is the "One Big Page" option but for some reason the thing is still devided in half. Maybe I'm not sure how it really works, I mean I already made a decent layout but found myself having to modify it a bit becuse there is a division in the middle.

Features I would recommend:

Different font colors
Computer editor (Mac in my case)
Highlight and modify the properties of multiple items
Move the "Exit Design Mode" out of the way to maybe top left corner.
When press one button a specify button's led would turn off. For example. I created like 9 Toggles and controlling a bank each. I would love to be able to turn off the LED of the previous selected preset as soon as I select a new one.
I'll think of more.

Overall I really like the amp and all the powerfull control that it has. Thank you for the hard work!

Hi Orpheus,

While I cannot speak for the developer regarding the first part of your question, I can help with a few other bits.

- The Two Half feature when used with One Big Page can act just like one page. Have a play and you will see that you can drop items anywhere. The two pages just behave as one. Double tap the Page tab to change to colours and textures to match each other.

- You can make a different Font Colour by first choosing the 'Hide Label' option on your control and then making a new Label (which can have it's own LED colour) and then moving that label to your control.

- You can move the 'Exit Design Mode' button about by dragging it.

- The Button behaviour you mention is possible by making a button group ( A Knob used as a supercontrol for the buttons)

Hello there!
thanks so much for helping me out and please pardon my ignorance.
I think I now understand better what the "Supercontrol" and "Subcontrols" do thanks to you!
On my layout I didn't want the "Supercongrol knobs" on the main page so I put them (6 of them) on another page in the background. I am now achieving what I wanted. Thanks!
The "One Big Page" option is still a little buggy while editing but it works. We'll get there.

Another question,
Is there a way to get real time data from my midi guitar effects? meaning, status of knobs and switches. Is that possible? I do have both MIDI IN and OUT cables connected. Is that what they call "Clock Sync"?

I would also love to know if its ok to sell Layouts. Would I be coming across a greedy? I really don't want to give that impression, I'm just wondering because although I'm still learning how to us these tools, I think I have made something really cool for some guitarist.

Not a problem.

  Rather than hide your Supercontrols, you can check the 'Hide in Performance' option in the Advanced tab.

  Regarding the real time data. MIDI Designer works both ways with MIDI but your equipment must be sending all that data in real time (and in the same format as it is being sent) for it to work. I have tested this with SysEx and it works. Clock Sync is not related. Clock Sync ensures that several MIDI devices remain in synchronization/tempo.

  If you believe that your experiences with 'One Big Page' could be described as a bug, and you have the time, could you possibly post your findings in the 'is this broken?' section of the forum, thanks.

Thanks SO MUCH to popup for answering and pitching in. Note: popup's layouts are amazing (JD-990, Korg EX8000, Casio XW revamp).

Anyway, @orpheus: regarding selling of layouts, it's fine, but there's no way to do this in the App, and we don't provide support for that. Also, at least right now (Nov 2013) I can tell you that it would be very hard to make any serious money selling layouts, even if we did have a setup for this. (please note that some of the other apps, including MIDI Controller Pro, offer to BUY layouts from users... we don't work like this, but it might be another avenue to consider. We have NOT tried that out nor have we really tested their app).

Regarding one-big-page: it's possible to stretch controls from left to right across the break (but not from right to left, so you have to be aware of this).

Thanks for the reply!
I was thinking more like selling it through a small website or just a Paypal transaction. Although I know that for us the idea might sound out of place because we know that we could easily create a layout for anything. But, I also know that there are people out there that wouldn't put time or effort to create their own layout and would rather pay for a plug and play layout.
It would be great if a layout could be "locked" or password protected for that reason. That way the sold layout won't be broken by the user.

Thanks @Orpheus. Each layout of that type would have to be an IAP, and then we'd have to spend development time preventing sharing. Right now, we're on the verge of investing more development time to promote sharing...

However, we'll consider it in the future, but for now the idea is to give the Community the tools it needs to share what they make.

To be honest, we would give MIDI Designer away too, but we've got full-time, dedicated development staff and some costs to cover, which is what Pro pays for. Even so, though, we do give away Lite, which is actually viable for all uses (but slightly annoying).
