Thanks for your question and sorry for the delay in responding. mDNS, a.k.a. Bonjour, can be tricky at times, but there's not much of a system to it. If both Audio-Midi setup (network midi) is searching and MD is still searching, it usually indicates either that 1) they're not connected on a lower, networking level or 2) there's a conflict with the DNS names.

Basically, there's no one solution that's definitely going to work, but if you try a bunch of things, eventually you'll get connected. I'd start with restarting the computer. Note that you do NOT need to start Ableton to get the connection happening. If that doesn't work, create a NEW network session. Make sure the session, on the bottom left, shows "allow anyone to connect to me."

Let me know how this goes and we'll troubleshoot it going forward.

Thanks for buying MDP and thanks for your patience as we get this figured out.
Another thing that's interesting is to use a new and different name for the Ad-Hoc network when you create it. Again, this is not sure science, but it definitely cannot hurt.

It's also very important that the iPad is really connected to the computer. If you have the networking skills, getting a ping app on your iPad to ping your computer is helpful (but not necessary).

Good luck and report back as we go forward. Also: what OS are you using?

Thanks!
Thanks for your thourough reply.

I'm running iOS7 and OS 10.8.5.

As you suggested I tried to change the ad-hoc name and it worked fine right away. Also it works now in a different location with a different wifi network.

I tried to connect it yesterday on a a train ride and again it failed to work on the ad-hoc. I tried to restart the iPad and the computer but with no luck.
In general I have the feeling that my iPad mini isn't very reliable on wifi. My old iPad 2 had the same problems on networks though.

I will test different locations with this setting and report back.
Thanks for the ping suggestion. Will try that, too.
