How do I use the X-Y Pad?

I'd like to use the X-Y Pad for controlling both the VCF and Resonance CCs on my synths, but I can only assign one CC to it apparently - how does it work?

To change the MIDI (and other) properties of the Y axis, hit "Design Y Control." 

Hit "Design X Control" to switch back.
