Button activated Multi-function controls on same channel?

Question

I am amazed by MIDI designer's constant evolution and improvements! Sorry to be greedy, but here is one more feature request:

SUMMARY: I would like to be able to set up multi-function controls similar to the way channel changers work, but prefer it be on the same channel and activated by a button rather than a  knob or slider like channel changers.

What I want to do is have a single grid of four knobs (or two x/y pads) whose MIDI cc assignments can be changed at the press of a button.  I would have buttons on the same page that force the knobs to a different cc.  So press one button and the knobs would alter four filter parameters.  Press another button to freeze the filter CC's and manipulate delay parameters.  Press another button and the knobs switch to compressor settings, etc.

This may be more complicated than setting up channel changers, but necessary when multiple functions controls need to be on the same channel.  If i have an instrument listening to only channel 4, currently I can't make a multi-function x/y pad for that instrument.

If there is any way to set this up currently, I haven't found it.  It would really be a useful addition for my setup.

So it's a channel changer but instead of channels, it varies some other parameter (like cc)? Also: does it snap to last-known values for subs like the channel changer, or not? Thanks, both for the question and the kind words!

Yes, exactly.  Functionality is just like channel changers, but alters the cc designation, not just cycle thru channels.  
Or maybe another way to think of it ( rather than comparing to channel changers) is to make a "channel-cc super control" that can override sub controls' channel and cc with a super control defined channel-cc.
Either way would work I think.
And yes, the subs would snap to last known values.
