Hello everyone, i am very new to Midi Designer and to this forum.
Basically i will be using program to control my Arranger Keyboard, change sounds, load songs, trigger fills, change variations, start/stop, tempo, etc.
I looked long and hard before choosing this program. Lemur looked cool, but too much going on there, and learning curve looked steep :-) Midi Touch looked OK but the developer can't be reached and there has not been an update in ages. TouchOSC looked OK but don't think is as flexible.
So while creating my control surface, i jotted down many ideas and rather than post different thread for every suggestion, i decided to put them all here. I'm only 1/2 way through creating it :-)
I know i may be suggesting things others have already, so sorry . These are in no particular order. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions...
No disrespect, this program is a GODSEND, but with these "few" tweaks, it can be even better:
-
Add Excel type grid where each cell is assignable (ie. automatically generate a 10x10, 12x16 matrix) I'd use this to put each song in a grid, click it, songs loads , but i'm sure there are lots of other uses (a workaround now is adding a ton of buttons and painstakingly rearranging them)
-
Ability to import then resize jpges/graphics from Camera Roll. I'd use this to add a logo perhaps, or import fancy text title, etc.
-
Abiltity to highlight, move, resize & color a GROUP of objects.
-
Add a Second Line of Text for all Labels, wrap text (inside and outside the buttons, faders, etc.)
-
Add a second group of colors, "softer" pastel colors, We'd choose Neon or Regular
-
Ability to Insert simple lines of varying thickness, colors, & lengths
-
Add more fonts & more GRADUAL size increments (more steps)
-
Allow Label Text Colors to be changed (ie. text below a fader)
-
Add a Jog/Shuttle Wheel
-
Add Encoders (especially ENDLESS encoders). I guess our knobs can be considered fixed encoders.
-
Add ability to rotate all objects (90 degrees), all text, anything and everything. This would allow us to use program in Portrait mode without having to totally rewrite code for Portrait mode.
-
Add more button shapes, circles, triangles, arrow buttons
-
Add Transport Control buttons, real Play, Stop, Rewind buttons
-
Option to Display your top 3 Presets right on top.
-
Make the Supersize of font command actually maximize into your chosen object, so the font is not 3x size of the button.
-
Improve look of pads with shadow effects so it actually looks LIT rather than colored (google pics of Native Instrument's Maschine MK2 and look at pads)
-
Ability to send 2 sysex messages per button press, 1 after the other, without the need to create Supercontrols
-
Simplify/Rework the "One Big Page" so it's not universal to all pages, each page will have the option of making it 1 big page (ie. 1st page will be 1 big page, the next will be split, etc)
-
Add more interesting Panels, Knobs, Sliders, Cross Faders, X-Y, etc.
-
Add ability to "position" text inside & outside the buttons (ie, at bottom inside, at top inside. below or above the outside of button). Creation of extra Label would then be unecessary.
-
Add Option of changing the Brightness on main app page
-
Add Option of displaying Battery % on main app page
-
Add Option of displaying the actual time on the main page (so i can know when to go on break at a gig, lol )
-
When you click on "Make Similar", have MD ask you "how many"?
I'd say do this for everything, even adding new, instead of having 1, 4, or 8, ask you how many, and you get that cool spinning wheel.
-
Ability to Select multiple objects, and DELETE
-
Ability to Save Favorite Colors, at least 8
-
In Edit Subcontrols, have option to DELETE ALL (oftentimes i have over 30 subcontrols linked to 1 supercontrol)
the only thing as good or better than Midi Designer is its SUPPORT, A +++
I'm LOVING this app
That's all my suggestions, for now at least...
