Can you create an up/down pair of buttons to set thru program change or other values?

Question

I have a knob in MIDI Designer and I want to use one button to get it to go up, and another to get it to go down. Can you do this in MIDI Designer?

I am trying out Midi Designer Lite and am really impressed.  Within a few minutes I set up 8 knobs for the Macro Controls in Native Instruments Massive.

It took me a bit to finally clue in to using Massive's "Midi Learn" setting (not the Learn button on Midi Designer) and that Massive accepts Program Changes in the Program List (not the main patch browser). You have to select and add patches to the Program List first, then the Program Change messages from Midi Designer will work.

Yes, up and down buttons are possible in MIDI Designer. These are called momentary "steppers" and it's the default behavior for a momentary button that is a supercontrol of a knob/slider etc.

The steps are:

• Create two buttons
• Set both to type momentary
• Make each button a supercontrol
• Add the program change knob as a subcontrol of both buttons
• The down button should have "invert supercontrol" checked.

Now you've got an up and down stepper.

 

If you don't want the button to be a stepper, turn "Force Not Stepper" on (blue).

Perfect - thanks, that's the trick… and this sold me on buying the full version!

SuperControls would be a great single-feature topic for a video in future. I didn't get the hang of adding subcontrols to the SuperControl but found a how-to at the 2:45 mark in the video "MIDI Designer Pedalboards".
